White Sox Tried To Nab Manny
A handful of clubs contacted the Dodgers about outfielder Manny Ramirez prior to Saturday's trade deadline, according to baseball sources.
FOX Sports first reported that the White Sox wanted Ramirez, who is currently on the disabled list for the third time this season.
Chicago was only willing to pay only $1 million of the more than $7 million remaining on his contract and would not give up any players.
Los Angeles reportedly asked for Chicago's Dayan Viciedo.
The Rays and Angels reportedly also asked about Ramirez.
Rays Close To Dealing For Qualls
The Rays are on the verge of acquiring reliever Chad Qualls from the Diamondbacks for a player to be named later, according to a source.
Arizona will not have to include any cash in the deal with Tampa Bay picking up the roughly $1.6 million Qualls is owed for the rest of the season.
Cardinals Targeting Jake Westbrook
The Cardinals are targeting Indians pitcher Jake Westbrook, according to sources.
Until recently, St. Louis had been focusing on a list of starters that included Dan Haren, Roy Oswalt, Aaron Cook and Livan Hernandez.

The Yankees remain on the verge of acquiring Lance Berkman from the Astros as the slugger has waived his no-trade clause to allow a move, according to sources.
The trade will likely be completed before Saturday's trade deadline.
Houston will pick up $4 million of the $7 million owed to Berkman this year and in his 2011 option, sources said.
New York will send two prospects to the Astros: reliever Mark Melancon and infielder Jimmy Paredes.
Berkman vetoed a trade to the White Sox earlier Friday, USA Today reported.
Dodgers, Cubs Talk Lilly Trade
The Dodgers and Cubs are discussing a deal that would send veteran left-hander Ted Lilly to Los Angeles, according to a source.
The teams have discussed two versions of a possible trade involving Lilly: one that involves only Lilly and another that also involves Cubs infielder Ryan Theriot to the Dodgers along with Lilly.
Yankees Deal For Berkman 'Imminent'
The Yankees are close to acquiring Lance Berkman from the Astros, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.
Berkman would become the team's full-time designated hitter.
"Source: Yankees deal for Berkman is "imminent" - won't be giving up any big prospects, but will take on his contract. He'll be the new DH," Feinsand wrote on his Twitter page.
